Lincoln Heights  —   It took firefighters about 90 minutes to extinguish a fire tonight that scorched about 3-1.2 acres of hillside grass and vegetation near Mission Road and N. Broadway.

The fire swept across a hillside near Abraham Lincoln High in an area with narrow roads as well as numerous dead ends, making access a challenge.  The fire was extinguished near the school but kept burning to the north before finally being put out.

At least one helicopter was seen dropping water on the flames, and police were on hand to make sure fire equipment got through neighborhood streets.

The fire was declared knocked down at about 11:30 pm. There were no reports of injuries or structure damage, according. to the LAFD. Evacuations were not required.

Meanwhile, in neighboring El Sereno, firefighters knocked down a blaze tonight in a second-floor apartment in the 4600 block of E. Grey Drive, said the LAFD. No injuries were reported.

This story was updated after the LAFD declared the fire extinguished
